Authenticity and Keeping it Human are the Keys to Good Events Today (ft. Shawna Suckow, Founder, SPIN (Senior Planners Industry Network)

OPENING QUOTE:

“The pandemic removed our filter, we don't have time for BS, we don't have time for lack of authenticity, we don’t have time for polished over professionalism, just be a human. We’re exhausted; just tell us how it’s going to be, and we’ll do it.  We want to have distractions and fun along the way, it can’t be all business. That’s reflected in the meetings that we need to plan as well, it can't be all business. We are so hungry for human connection, and we don't get that sitting and listening to the speakers; on one the one hand, I’m a speaker, but also, I want my attendees to be energized and interested and engaged, and so it's a balance that has to happen. The meeting planner has so much power to control that outcome that maybe wasn't there before, and now I think people are really ready to hear it. Whereas before, the committee or board would before say we have to cram as much education into this conference as possible. Now they are realizing they have humans in those seats, and they need more than that; they need to be stimulated to have this conversation in the hallway after the speaker and have the energy to come back in for the next speaker, being an engaged and interested audience.”
